What is Open MRI?

MRI, Magnetic resonance imaging, is a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. MR imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor, printed or copied to CD. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays).

This non-invasive MRI diagnostic procedure is painless; it requires minimal preparation and can lead to early detection and treatment of health problems, while providing a more comfortable and less cramped environment.

Patients who find the traditional "close" MRI extremely uncomfortable and intimidating will benefit greatly from the Open MRI. The Open MRI is conducive to all patients regardless of patient's size and claustrophobic tendencies, reducing the patient's anxiety. Open MRI systems are performed in a more relaxed environment with large windows for outside viewing.
